EUR/USD unchanged. Brent Crude at $50.59.

EUR/USD was stable during the Asian session today. As of 3:00 AM EDT the pair was trading at 1.1357, almost unchanged from the previous close.

Asian shares were mostly up today. Below is presented the performance of major indices:

  • Shanghai Composite closed at 2,936.04, up 0.07%.
  • Nikkei 225 rose 0.58% finishing at 16,675.45.
  • Hang Seng was trading at 21,316.39 as of 3:51 PM HKT, which represents 1.36% gain from the previous close.
  • S&P/ASX 200 closed at 5,371.00, up 0.20%.
  • India’s Sensex was trading at 27,039.00 as of 1:22 PM IST, which is 0.98% higher than the previous close.

According to the Cabinet Office data released today, the Japan’s leading economic index rose to 100.5 in April from 99.1 in March. Another report showed that the Japan’s coincident index increased to 112.2 in April from 110.2 in the previous month.

Oil prices were trading below the previous close throughout the day, however they increased slightly at the end of the Asian hours. As of 3:44 AM EDT the WTI Crude was trading at 49.72 USD/bbl up 0.06% and Brent Crude at 50.59 USD/bbl, which is 0.08% higher than the previous close. “The upside was tempered by comments from Fed chair Yellen that were supportive to the dollar” said Stuart Ive from OM Financial.


“For now, with Brent prices at $50, investors and producers are reassessing their compass. Some might be waiting for the rally to be more sustainable” said Aaron Lynch, a commodities analyst at OptionsXpress.
