EUR/USD closed at 1.1049. Us unemployment rate rose to 4.9%.

EUR/USD finished slightly lower today. The pair closed at 1.1049, which is 0.11% below the previous close.

While the Asian shares posted moderate losses today, the European and U.S. markets finished higher. Below is presented the performance of major indices:

  • FTSE 100 closed at 6,590.64, up 0.87%.
  • CAC 40 rose 1.77% finishing at 4,190.68.
  • Euro Stoxx 50 closed at 2,838.01, climbing 2.08%.
  • DJIA increased 1.40% finishing at 18,146.74.
  • Nasdaq Composite finished at 4,956.76, up 1.64%.
  • S&P 500 closed at 2,129.90, which represents 1.53% increase from the previous close.

According to the data from the Labor Department, the U.S. added 287,000 jobs in June. The national unemployment rate rose to 4.9 percent, as per the report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics released today. This figure is slightly higher than the 4.8 percent estimated by the economists.

“The economy added 287,000 jobs in June, a bounce-back from May’s low number and a clear indication that the economy continues to make solid progress,” said Jason Furman, the chairman of White House Council of Economic Advisers.

Oil prices fell more than 7 percent this week. The WTI Crude closed at 45.41 USD/bbl, up 0.60%. The Brent Crude was trading at 46.45 USD/bbl as of 5:30 PM EDT, which represents just 0.11% increase from the previous close.

“It’s choppy and will likely stay so. It’ll be a tug of war today between the very strong jobs numbers and the existing bearish oil market fundamentals.” said David Thompson, executive vice-president at Washington-based commodities broker Powerhouse.
