EUR/USD at 1.1214. US stockpiles increased to a record high.

EUR/USD fluctuated in a range of 1.1189-1.1276 today. As of 6:00 PM EDT the currency pair was trading at 1.1214, which is 0.25% lower than the previous close.

US stocks opened lower today, but rebounded quickly during afternoon hours and closed around previous levels. Below is presented the performance of major indices:

  • DJIA closed at 17,582.57 losing 0.23%.
  • Nasdaq Composite finished at 4,821.66, up 0.27%.
  • S&P 500 closed almost unchanged at 2,049.80.

The markets started lower driven by the attacks in Brussels. Among the losers today were the airlines and travel companies’ stocks.

“This is the new investing normal now. You’re going to have these big tragic events, so I don’t think investors are really too concerned with it long-term” said Chris Gaffney from EverBank World Markets.

Oil prices had a volatiles session today. The WTI Crude closed at 41.45 USD/bbl, down 0.17%. The Brent Crude was trading at 41.60 USD/bbl as of 5:45 PM EDT, representing a 0.14% increase from the previous close.

American Petroleum Institute (API) announced today that the U.S. crude stockpiles increased by 8.8 million barrels last week reaching a record high of nearly 532 million. Official US Government crude inventory report will be released on Wednesday.


Abdalla Salem el-Badri, secretary-general of the OPEC reported on Monday that both OPEC and non-OPEC countries would attend a meeting on April 17 to discuss the deal on production freeze. However, later Iran and Libya announced their decision not to attend the meeting.
