EUR/USD at 1.0941. Oil prices above 34$.

EUR/USD traded in a range of 1.0865-1.0969 today, closing the session at 1.0941, which is 0.37% higher than the previous close. The currency pair is up for 4 days in a row and has currently gained more than 1.3% over this week so far.

US markets finished higher today mostly driven by positive corporate earning results and reports on weekly jobless claims and consumer confidence. The performance of major US indices are presented below:

  • DJIA closed at 16,069.64 gaining 0.79%.
  • Nasdaq Composite was up 0.86% finishing the session at 4,506.68.
  • S&P 500 increased by 0.55% closing at 1,893.36.

Among outstanding earning announcements today we can mention Facebook quarterly results, which beat analysts’ estimates. It posts $5.84 billion revenue for the quarter, after which the stock price jumped 15%.

The Conference Board announced today that its consumer confidence index improved in January rising to 98.1 compared with 96.3 in December. Weekly jobless claims declined more than was expected falling by 16,000 to 278,000 compared with 294,000 in a previous period.

Oil prices rose today continuing their rally for the third day in a row. WTI Crude closed at 33.72 USD/bbl, increasing by 4,40%. It hit the daily high of 34.82$ during afternoon trading. Brent Crude was trading at 34.48 USD/bbl up 4.17% as of 17:34 ET, noting that it even reached the price of 35.84$ today.
