EUR/USD almost unchanged. Oil prices slightly lower.

EUR/USD had a volatile session today, trading below the Yesterday close most of the time, however it recovered during North American session closing almost unchanged. As of 5:00 PM EDT the currency pair was trading at 1.1176, which is just 0.06% lower than the previous close.

US shares opened lower today, but managed to recover at the end of the session finishing around previous close prices. Below is presented the performance of major indices:

  • DJIA closed at 17,515.73, up 0.08%.
  • Nasdaq Composite increased by 0.10% finishing at 4,773.50.
  • S&P 500 closed at 2,035.94, down just 0.04%.

The number of Americans filling for unemployment benefits increased less than the analysts’ estimates. According to the Labor Department data, the initial jobless claims rose by 6,000 reaching 265,000 for the week ended March 19, slightly lower than the analysts’ forecast of 269,000.


The Commerce Department reported today that the orders for durable goods fell 2.8% in February, better than the analysts’ estimate of 2.9% decline.

“The U.S. jobs market remains solid. With a tighter jobs market, more people are looking for work and employers are raising wages, both good news for consumer spending and the overall economy in 2016” said Gus Faucher from PNC Financial Services.

Oil prices slightly declined today. As of 4:55 PM EDT the WTI Crude was trading at 39.52 USD/bbl down 0.68% and Brent Crude at 40.42 USD/bbl, which is 0.12% lower than the previous close.

“The fundamental picture after all remains weak. There are no viable arguments on the oil market for price rises” written in the note from Commerzbank.
